Sustainable Communities

We are passionate about creating a school environment that is deeply intertwined with our greater community. We cultivate a lifelong respect of nature and community by connecting children directly to the natural world in their everyday surroundings.

Farm & Garden Program

Using our own school’s garden as a laboratory, we explore where food comes from, and how to cultivate the things we eat. Our beautifully cozy school is the perfect setting for children to gain a hands-on and intuitive understanding of this food cycle. Our 2nd and 3rd year students conduct monthly field trips to our sister program Sandy Loam at Veronda-Falletti Ranch for further contextual learning.  Don’t be surprised if children come home with a deep passion for growing vegetables and composting!

Ecology & Environment

Situated under a redwood grove right on Lichau Creek, Bright Skies Montessori is the natural habitat for bird, insect and amphibian species. We live in harmony with ladybugs, butterflies, bees, hummingbirds, turkey vultures, owls, frogs, salamanders and more. We learn through our observations of these animals and study of our shared environment that we are all part of a complex ecosystem.
